Adelaide strikers beat Melbourne Stars by eight wickets with 45 balls to spare in the first match of Big Bash League at Adelaide. England Batsmen Luke Wright (45) and Kevin Pietersen (66) had earlier propelled the Stars to a respectable total of 148/7 in 20 overs. No other batsman made it to double figures. Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowler for the Strikers as he notched up figures of 3/20 in three overs. Ben Laughlin too chipped in with a couple of wickets.

Chasing 149 for victory, Strikers’ opening pair of Craig Simmons and Tim Ludeman put one 83 of 33 balls for the first wicket. Ludeman was unbeaten at 92 of just 44 deliveries. John Hastings got both the wickets for the Stars and the Strikers cruised home in style. Not surprisingly, Tim Ludeman was awarded with the man of the match award for his amazing innings.

Brief Scores:

Adelaide Strikers: 149/8 (Simmons 30, Ludeman 92 not out) beat Melbourne Stars: 148/7  (Wright 45, Pietersen 66; Richardso 2/20)
