The T20 Big Bash League (BBL) technical committee Wednesday confirmed that Adam Crosthwaite has been added to the Sydney Sixers squad as an injury cover for back-up wicketkeeper Daniel Smith.
With first-choice keeper Brad Haddin playing for the Australia One-Day International (ODI) squad, Crosthwaite will only be available to play if Smith fails a fitness test later.
Under the BBL rules, a team can apply to add a local replacement player to its squad if it’s able to satisfy the technical committee that it doesn’t have enough players available to field anything other than an unbalanced team in an upcoming BBL match.
Under these circumstances, a local replacement player may be added to a team’s squad solely on a match-by-match basis.

If Smith is ruled out, the Sixers would have no recognised wicketkeeper in its contract list. Therefore, the technical committee has approved the request for Crosthwaite to join the Sixers for Wednesday’s match against the Melbourne Renegades only.
