The Indian blind cricket team continued to excel in the Blind Cricket World T20, as they registered their third win in four games, beating England blind cricket team by 10 wickets Indore’s Holkar Stadium. England captain Luke Sugg elected to bat first, post which his side managed 158 runs before getting bundled out in the 20th over. In reply, the Indian openers went great guns, chasing it down with ease inside 11 overs. With this win, India are now placed at the third position in the league, standing behind Pakistan and Australia, who have won all their games so far.
The city of Indore was buzzing ahead of this solitary World Cup fixture being scheduled to be played here. Before the first ball was bowled, a crowd easily in excess of 5,000 had made its way in to the stands. Shorter boundaries, underarm bowling, rattling ball et al was a new experience for them. But these unfamiliar playing conditions notwithstanding, the crowd backed the two teams and cheered for every single run and wicket. Indore, which is known for its cricket-loving culture, lived up to its reputation one more time.
England scored 158 in 19.4 overs, thanks to the 57-run knock by Edward James Hossell. For India, Ketan Patel picked up 2 wickets, while Venkateswara Rao D, Sunil, Sonu Golkar and Iqbal Jafar picked up a wicket each.
In reply, the Indian openers Sukhram Majhi (32-ball 67*) and Ganesh Mundakar (34-ball 78*) went hammer and tongs right from the word go and gunned down the total in 11 overs. The England bowlers simply had no answer to the onslaught, as the Indian openers completed the run chase in virtually no time. Mundakar was adjudged the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 78. With this win, India now have 9 points after four games and are placed at No. 3 in the league standings. Pakistan top the table with four wins in as many games and 12 points, while Australia are at No. 2 with three wins in three games.
The final of the tournament, for which the defending champion Indian team is a strong contender, will be in held in Bengaluru on February 12.
