Abhinav Mukund, who had a forgettable outing during India’s recent ‘A’ tour of the West Indies, is determined to make-up for the lost opportunity when he leads India ‘A’ on the tour of New Zealand this month.

“It is an honour to be given the captaincy. I’ll try and give my best,” he said at the National Cricket Academy, where the ‘A’ side began its camp on Sunday.

“We have a lot of time to prepare the right way. In the last ‘A’ tour of the West Indies, we did not have much time to prepare. It’s a fresh season and we want to make a good start,” he added.

Mukund said breaking into the Test side remains a priority but he will have to work hard to get there “I have to score plenty of runs to get there,” he admitted.

“There is no limit to improvement as a batsman. I want to turn around my fortunes after the West Indies tour. Everyone goes through a bad phase. I want to ensure I’m well prepared for the upcoming tour,” he said.

“Look at Cheteshwar Pujara. He did well in the West Indies and is now back in the Test side. If we perform, we might get a call-up for the Test team too,” Mukund was quoted as saying by DNA.
