After his tenure of 5 years in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah has now been elected as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman. He will be taking the office after Greg Barclay, since he resigned from the designation.

“Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the next Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah, who has served as the BCCI Honorary Secretary since October 2019 and Chair of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021, will assume this prestigious role on December 1, 2024. Shah was the sole nominee for the chairmanship after current Chair Greg Barclay decided not to seek a third term,” said ICC in a media release.

On august 20, New Zealand’s Barclay chose not to compete for the position as he completed his tenure of four years.

“ICC Chair Greg Barclay confirmed to the Board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November. Barclay was appointed as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020, before being re-elected in 2022,” the ICC stated in a media release.
