Auckland: Brendan Taylor, the Zimbabwe batsman, has signed up with English county Nottinghamshire as a Kolpak player ahead of the 2015 season. Taylor has been Zimbabwe’s premier batsman and a wicketkeeper. His loss will be a huge blow to a cricketing nation that is still trying to regain lost ground on the international scene. Dav Whatmore, the Zimbabwe coach, said that they will miss having Taylor, but has said other players will have the potential to fill in. Top 10 batsmen in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Zimbabwe’s training session at Eden Park ahead of their ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 clash against India, Whatmore said, “It is true we will be missing Brendan Taylor, who is going to Nottingham, and they are very very lucky to have him. Despite that, we feel we have got a number of players who make this team really strong in terms of what they offer.” Top 10 bowlers in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

The Kolpak deal is such that a player can represent a county side as a local and would not be counted as an overseas player. But, that entails that you completely give your commitment to the county and give up international cricket. Taylor would thus no longer be available for Zimbabwe and the game against India could be his last for his country. BBC reported that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is yet to okay Taylor’s contract with Nottinghamshire. Top 10 fielders in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015
