Brendon McCullum, Kane Williamson, Steven Smith among others named as Wisden’s cricketers of the year

Brendon McCullum, Steven Smith, Kane Williamson features in Wisden's list of 5 players who are mentioned in the cricketers of the year category.

Wisden announced the list of five players who feature in their cricketers of the year category. Wisden has named New Zealand’s recently retired cricketer Brendon McCullum, along with their current Test, One-Day International and Twenty20 (T20) skipper Kane Williamson. Australia’s Test, ODI and T20 captain Steven Smith also feature in the list. Adding to the stardom are England’s Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. McCullum scored  a 54-ball hundred, the fastest in Tests, while Smith scored a double-ton at Lord’s to add to his magnificent 143 at Oval in The Ashes last year. Williamson who is like a breath of fresh air, has grown leaps and bounce this year, scoring a memorable ton at Lord’s against England.  IPL 2016: BCCI introduces regional language content

Englands Jonny Baistow has been their crisis man apart from Joe Root, notching up an unbeaten 83 off 60 balls or his 74 in a heroic stand with Root in the fourth Ashes Test to confirm his name as Ashes Winner, Ben Stokes who had a horrible World Cup final, will find respite in knowing that his names features along side McCullum and Smith. Stokes showcased his batting prowess against South Africa amassing 258 runs from just 198 balls in the first Test at Cape Town.

Along with being named in the Wisden’s cricketers of the year, Williamson is also Wisden’s leading cricketer of the year.
