Wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum will lead New Zealand in their one-off Test match against Zimbabwe at Napier, after regular captain Ross Taylor tore his right calf and was subsequently ruled out of action on Friday.
Taylor didn t mention about the injury till afternoon. He later tweeted, “Grade 2 tear. Out for 3-4 weeks. Thanks for all the messages.”
The No 4 batsman is likely to miss the limited overs series against Zimbabwe and coach John Wright is unlikely to involve him, New Zealand Herald reported.
Taylor hurt himself while trying to get a single. He came on to bat on 111 on the second day, and was on 122 when he left the field.
BJ Watling and Doug Bracewell were at the crease and added 27 runs from 34 balls before the rain interrupted the day s proceedings.
