Seasonal rains played havoc as four of the five matches were called off without a ball is being bowled on the first day of the Buchi Babu cricket tournament at different venues.
In the lone match, where some play was possible, Uttar Pradesh scored 50 for four in 47 overs against Tamil Nadu XI on a heavy outfield.
Indian Off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the main strike for the hosts as he claimed three for 35. When day’s play was called off a 5.28pm, Akshadeep Nath (15) and Praveek Kumar (4) were at the crease.
Earlier, opener Tanmay Srivastava (25), Mukul Dagar (38 red.hurt) and Prashant Gupta (29) chipped in with valuable scores for Uttar Pradesh.

In the other matches — defending champions Karnataka vs Bengal, Hyderabad vs Haryana, Assam vs TNCA President XI and Baroda vs Kerala — play was called off at different times after three mandatory inspections by respective Umpires.
