Canberra: Dec 15, 2011

Cricket Australia Chairman’s XI made a cautious start against India in their two-day warm-up game as they reached 53 for two at lunch on the opening day at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Openers Wes Robinson and Ryan Broad didn’t give Indian bowlers any chance to capitalise after the tourists decided to bowl first, as they added just 14 runs in first nine overs.

Right-arm pacer Umesh Yadav provided India the first breakthrough when he had Broad caught by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha for eight.

Pragyan Ojha bagged the second wicket of the session dismissing Joe Burns for 21, after he added a further 31 runs with Robinson.

At lunch, Robinson was at the crease batting on 19 off 78 balls, accompanied by Tom Cooper at 2.

India rested their key players Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for this match.

The two-day practise match allows only 11 players to bat, but 13 players can take part in it. This implies that India will aim to test all their pacers ahead of the important Test series against Australia starting December 26.

Brief Scores: Cricket Australia Chairman’s XI 53 for 2 (Joe Burns 21, Wes Robinson 19*; Pragyan Ojha 1 for 8, Umesh Yadav 1 for 8) vs India.
