CAB secretary Aditya Verma threatens perjury case against BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur

New Delhi: Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) secretary Aditya Verma on Thursday threatened to file a case of perjury against Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur. “My legal team is ready to file perjury against Anurag Thakur for his false statement in the Supreme Court during the hearing of SLP no 35160/13 & Civil appeal 4235, 4236/14 & 1155/15 in the matter related to affiliation of Bihar Cricket,” Verma said in a statement. We have enough affidavits of Anurag Thakur which showed that how they tried to cheat the young cricketers of Bihar by given continuously wrong statements on oath in the highest court of the country,” the statement added. Verma also added that “from last 16 years, after the bifurcation of the state of Bihar, the budding cricketers of Bihar have failed to show their talents at the state, national or international level due to step-motherly behaviour of BCCI”. Eariler, CAB had moved Supreme Court in a bid to stall Thakur from contesting the scheduled election to President’s post, contending that a charge-sheeted person cannot contest under the Lodha Committee recommendations. The CAB, in its plea, said there are two charge sheets filed against Thakur, including the one relating to construction of a cricket stadium in Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh under the Prevention of Corruption Act and in one case, charges have been framed. It said that it will not be appropriate to fill the vacancy caused by incumbent Shashank Manohar’s resignation by conducting an election till the pendency of the matter relating to the administrative reforms as it is listed for hearing on June 30, 2016.
