Now that cricket has been approved for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Jemimah Rodrigues, a star cricket player for India, has expressed her excitement at the prospect of representing her country in the sport very soon. She wants to play for the Indian team that goes to Los Angeles four years later, and the young player, who will probably be 27 years old by then, will probably be on that team.
Wearing the exclusive Indian jersey made for the grand competition, Rodrigues supported the Indian competitors competing in the Paris Olympics.
With just six medals in their collection, India’s Olympic journey in Paris came to an end on Saturday, August 10, marking a decline from their best-ever showing at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
“Loved wearing this current Indian Olympic jersey. Can’t wait to play Cricket for India at the Olympics soon!!
Man, what a feeling that’d be! 👊🏼,” Rodrigues posted on Instagram.
Almost 65,000 people liked Rodrigues’ Instagram post in just eight hours. From the Asian Games last year, she already has a gold medal in her possession thanks to the Indian women’s team.
While Australia and England are among the countries that will compete in the Olympics, India was the clear favorite at the Asian Games. India will have achieved a great deal for Indian sports in general and cricket specifically if they can defeat the higher-ranked teams and win the gold.
Rodrigues has amassed 2074 runs in 87 matches and 11 fifties in the shortest version of cricket that will be played at the Olympics.
Interestingly, there was only one men’s cricket competition at the 1900 Summer Olympics, which Great Britain defeated France in. It is planned to return at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, where men’s and women’s T20 competitions will take place.
