Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) goes under scanner as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently accused the board for misuse of a whopping Rs 1 crore of money provided by a chit fund group, namely Artha Tatwa (AT) group, as the sponsorship of Odisha Premier League (OPL) 2011. CBI on Monday interrogated OCA secretary Asirbad Behera and four other members of the body over the matter. No official statement regarding the outcome of the interrogation has been made by CBI yet, while Behera is known to have denied all the accusations made against him regarding the suspect scam during the mentioned tournament. As reported by Times of India, an inside source from CBI revealed, “While scanning the bank accounts of OCA and AT Group, we found that lakhs of rupees were diverted to the account of a contractor from the OCA account. We suspect the money was part of the sponsorship amount given by the AT Group. So far the OCA has failed to provide satisfactory explanations about the utilization of Rs 1 crore.”
Behera, on the other hand, was quoted saying, “I am not involved in AT group scam. We did not misuse the money.”
Sanjay Behera, son of Asirbad behera and one of the governing body members of Odisha Football Association, was also summoned in 2014 for interrogation by CBI but was absent to reveal the reasons behind.
