The football mania has gripped the nation. The fourth edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) is around the corner. India are the hosts of the Under-17 FIFA World Cup. Why should the celebrities miss the fun? It was that time of the year when Abhishek Bachchan-led All Stars FC play Virat Kohli’s All Hearts FC in the much-hyped celebrity clasico at Andheri, Mumbai. Last year, the game ended 2-2, but the cricketers came back hard to script a 7-3 win and once again it was MS Dhoni.

We have heard folklore about his goalkeeping days. We have seen him clear the biggest grounds, affect lightening-fast stumpings, take blinders behind the stumps, and now he paid the perfect tribute to the jersey No. 7, the one that David Beckham donned for decades. Dhoni scored back-to-back goals, the second one being a Beckham-style free kick.

Skipper Kohli was not out of action either. The self proclaimed CR7 (Cristiano Ronaldo) of the side scored 2 assists and eventually got a goal in extra-time. The star from the other camp was Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor.

Here’s how the Celebrity Clasico went ahead:

Jonty Rhodes played in the side full of Indian players. Okay, he is India’s father. Agreed. Let’s move on.

5’: Dhoni took a shot and it’s GOAL! It’s a deflection of a defender.

25’: Brilliant shot by Ranbir Kapoor and that’s off the crossbar.

39’: Dhoni is on the target again. This time, a free-kick. They’ll say ‘Bend It Like MS’. All Hearts are 2-0.

41’: 3-0 now. It’s Aniruddha Srikkanth. He heads that assist from Kohli in the target.

42’: Shabir Ahluwalia scores. He gets it in from outside the D box.

49’: All Hearts are lucky to get a penalty here. It was rather Manish Pandey pushing the defender but it’s all a part of the game. Aniruddha puts in the penalty.

57’: Brilliant from Ranbir. He puts the cross in. The best goal in the match so far.

64’: Ashish Nehra is united with his old friend and fellow left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan in the commentary box. Nehra says, “No chance of me playing today.” And then quips, “I might if we are losing.” There’s more. “All these young guys play FIFA on PS. I don’t play FIFA. I play Mario and Contra.”

86’: Kohli almost nets that one. It deflects of keeper Marc Robinson but Kedar Jadhav put it in.

89’: A deft pass from Ranbir to Aadar Jain, who turns and nets it in from the edge of the box. This is surely a contender for best goal.

92’: Finally it’s Kohli. He has his name in the score sheet. Runs through the right flank and chips it over the keeper.

97’: Goalie Shashank fouls on Jadhav. Another penalty. Shikhar Dhawan takes it and puts it in style.

And there’s the slap on the thigh and twirling of moustache celebrations. The cricketers have sealed it 7-3.

Dhoni was the Man of the Match. And guess what, he received the award from his ex-teammate Zaheer.
