A Chennai-based corporate has bought the Invitation To Tender (ITT) document from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office. The Chennai-based firm is one of the six firms that are interested to buy a temporary team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals will remain suspended, the BCCI is inviting bids for two new teams for two for a duration of two years. The existing Chennai franchise, albeit suspended, is owned by a cement company – India Cements, while the firm Chettinad,also runs a cement business in South India. A top official from Chettinad has made it certain, about the interest in IPL. “We have just bought the form and we are looking at it”, the official said. The Chennai firm will make a serious bid for a team, however there is no assurance that, purchase of the ITT document wil result in the purchase of a team. The two Goenka brothers – Harsh of RPG Group (CEAT Tyres) and Sanjiv of Atletico Madrid ISL football team, are amongst those who have also bought the document. Videocon is also suppositely, to have taken the form, while there is a possibility of the two Goenka siblings bidding for the teams. Meanwile,the BCCI has confirmed about the appointment of Ratnakar Shetty as the successor to Sundar Raman. Sending mails to IPL franchises, AGM Finance and Commercial, Hemang Amin informing them about the development recently and on Thursday. Ratnakar Shetty himself informed the teams, about the present decisions taken by the IPL Governing Council meeting.
Player contracts of their registered squads for the 2016 season by one more year, can be renewed by the IPL teams, Shetty has formally informed the franchises and has asked them to exercise this right before December 15, 2016. The mega-auction, due for 2017, will be bought up in a year. The trading window’s for the 2016 season will be on between December 15 and 31.
