The eagerly awaited 11th match of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lahore Lions (LL) has been called off due to heavy and persistent rains in the Garden city, Bangalore. With the cut-off time for any play to resume being 10.30 P.M, there was every chance of some play to happen during the evening. The thundershowers started 20 minutes before the toss and the intensity of the downpour gathered steam from thereon.
The umpires had initially decided to take stock of the situation later but continuous rains forced the officials and authorities to call off the match with the ground flooded with water.
“Rain has the final say. Game 11 of the World T20 League has been called off without even the flip of the coin,” the CLT20 organisers tweeted.
The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team stays on second spot with six points in three games, after getting two from this match, while Lahore have registered their first points on board after losing their opening encounter to table-toppers KKR.
CSK had lost their first match against the Gautam Gambhir-led KKR before defeating the South African T20 champions Dolphins, who are winless from their two games, in their last game.
With Kolkata already qualifying from Group A, Chennai and Perth Scorchers will be running close to be the second team from this group to book its last-four spot.
Scorchers have one win and a loss in their two games played. Lahore and Dolphins will really have to play out of their skins in their respective matches to hope for a turnaround in fortunes.
