Lendl Simmons is adjudged Man of the Match for his 63 and two wickets. “It was important we give our team a good start it was a small total. I have confidence in myself. The pitch was on the slower side but the ball came on to the bat well. Lewis has a lot of confidence, he played well in previous games as well. Hope he goes form strength to strength,” says Simmons.

T&T 119/1 | Overs 15.1 | Bravo 11*(14), Ottley 1*(1)

Trinidad and Tobago are through to semi-finals

That’s it, Darren Bravo hits the winning runs. Trinidad are through to semi-finals in style. They top Group B with that comfortable win and will face Mumbai Indians.

T&T 118/1 | Overs 15 | Bravo 10*(13), Ottley 1*(1)   OUT! Simmons 63

Simmons smashes straight for a six off Ashwin but in the next ball he hits straight to Mohit Sharma at deep mid-wicket. Match-winning innings from Simmons.

T&T 110/1 | Overs 14 | Simmons 57*(39), Bravo 9*(10)

Simmons smashes the first ball to long-off boundary. An otherwise quiet over. Simmons has ensured that his team has seized the opportunity having the top team on the mat by bowling out for 118.

Mind you Trinidad need to chase the target in 17.4 overs and they look well on course to achieve that and face Mumbai at Delhi.

T&T 103/1 | Overs 13 | Simmons 51*(36), Bravo 8*(7)

Fifty for Simmons and 100 comes up for Trinidad. Four byes conceded as the ball goes through Simmons and Dhoni.

16 needed now.

T&T 95/1 | Overs 12 | Simmons 49*(32), Bravo 6*(5)

Simmons looking great. Smashes the first ball into the stands. He was a bit ambitious and skies a short ball in the air. Bravo and Badrinath running towards the ball but it’s dropped. It was Badrinath’s catch, he was a bit slow to react.

T&T 85/1 | Overs 11 | Simmons 40*(27), Bravo 5*(4)  OUT! Lewis 38

Finally a breakthrough. Raina bowls a straighter one, the ball keeps low and hits Lewis low on the pad. Simple decision for the umpire. Bravo gets a boundary off the last ball.

Simmons has shaped his innings well. Looked susceptble at the start but hung on and got going.

T&T 79/0 | Overs 10 | Simmons 39*(26), Lewis 38*(34)

Jadeja is being targetted by the batsmen. Simmons launches consecutive sixes. First he slogs through mid-wicket, then hits straight over the bowler’s head. He cuts and cuts well on the third ball to collect a boundary. 6, 6, 4 – 16 in the first three deliveries.

19 runs in that over.

T&T 60/0 | Overs 9 | Simmons 22*(22), Lewis 34*(32)

Raina restricting the bowlers but that isn’t going to trouble the batsmen much. Lewis hungry for a pitched up delivery to attack but gets nothing more than two singles.

T&T 57/0 | Overs 8 | Simmons 21*(20), Lewis 34*(27)

Simmons pulls a short delivery for boundary. Jason Holder strays once more but the fielder on squareleg quickly moves across and restricts it to a single.

Fifty-run opening stand coming in 44 deliveries. The win is pretty much in Trinidad’s sight. They might soon go for tooping the group.

T&T 48/0 | Overs 7 | Simmons 15*(15), Lewis 32*(25)

Tidy over from Suresh Raina. Just three runs from it.

T&T 45/0 | Overs 6 | Simmons 15*(15), Lewis 30*(21)

Lewis is taking the attack to Jadeja. Picks 10 runs of the first three deliveries. Smacks the ball over extra-cover and then plays along the ground in the same direction. In the third deliver he nicks it but the ball dribbles past the keeper’s gloves and slips. Ashwin manages to pull the ball back and save a third boundary.

T&T 34/0 | Overs 5 | Simmons 15*(15), Lewis 19*(15)

Trinidad are now cruising along. Ashwin strays in line on the fourth ball and a deft touch is enough to take the ball to the fine-leg fence.

T&T 28/0 | Overs 4 | Simmons 10*(11), Lewis 18*(13)

Evin Lewis is slowly loosening his arms. Collects three boundaries off Morkel’s over. Morkel delivers a slower one hut pitches it on the leg, Lewis nudges it past the fine-leg fielder. The next ball he tries to pull one through md-wicket but mistimes it and yet it manages to run for a boundary.

The last ball of the over an inside fetches Lewis four more runs.

13 runs in the over.

T&T 15/0 | Overs 3 | Simmons 9*(10), Lewis 6*(8)

Ashwin not getting much turn from the new ball as a result he just trying to angle in or bowl the straighter deliveries. Except for the second ball when he took a slightly aerial route.

T&T 12/0 | Overs 2 | Simmons 7*(8), Lewis 5*(4)

Albie Morkel begins from the other end. It was a quiet over but Lewis places the last ball square on the offside wide of thirdman for a boundary.

T&T 7/0 | Overs 1 | Simmons 6*(5), Lewis 1*(1)

Dropped! It could have been a third duck for Lendl Simmons. A thin edge went between the keeper and the slip fielder. Raina at slips was standing wide as a result couldn’t snap that catch. Off the mark with a lucky boundary, Simmons was almost stumped the next ball.

Simmons is just not able to read Ashwin.

To recap, Chennai uper Kings were put into bat by Trinidad on a slow pitch which offered a bit of turn. Michael Hussey was the first to go bowled by Rampaul. Except for Raina none of the other batsmen could hang on. They kept losing wickets and the Trindad bowlers kept a tight line as well.

You can read the innings report here

CSK 118 | Overs 19.4 | M Sharma 0*  OUT! Holder 0, Ashwin 9

After Holder skies a catch, Ashwin makes a mess of a single. Tries to save himself at the non-strikers end, loses his bat and then goes back to complete the single and his caught just short.

Superb effort by Trinidad and Tobago bowlers. They have been disciplined and their main bowlers Narine and Rampaul have been on target. Before the match they were looking to qualify, but if they reach this low target in 17.4 overs they can even top the group.

CSK 116/8 | Overs 19 | Ashwin 7*(2)   OUT! Morkel 4, Badrinath 3

Chennai have been off-colour today. Morkel’s painful stay on the crease comes to an end. Four runs from 16 balls! Ashwin gets hold of the fourth ball and smacks it into the stands. But the next ball the batsmen attempt a non-existent run and Badrinath is caught way away from the crease.

CSK 106/6 | Overs 18 | Morkel 4(14), Badrinath 2*(4)

He hasn’t picked any wicket but Sunil Narine has been brilliant. Getting the variations into effect perfectly to keep the batsman guessing. Concedes just 12 in his quota of four overs.

CSK 102/6 | Overs 17 | Morkel 2(12), Badrinath 0*(0)  OUT! Dhoni 25

Dhoni switches to a heavy bat a slaps the first ball for a boundary. But finally snaps the most important wicket of Dhoni. The Chennai skipper takes the aerial route but doesn’t get any distance and Lendl Simmons takes a good catch. He almost fumbled but manages to hold it to his chest.

100 comes up for Chennai. 62 balls taken for the second fifty!

CSK 94/5 | Overs 16 | Dhoni 18*(21), Morkel 1(10)

Narine sets up up Morkel beautifully. Strangles him moving it away from him consistently and the batsman fails to break the off side shield. The last ball jags back in and he has no clue about it. A loud appeal from the bowling side but no favourable result.

Just one of that over.

CSK 93/5 | Overs 15 | Dhoni 17*(20), Morkel 1(5)

Rampaul mixes up his speed well. Morkel is watchful at the slower deliveries and finally manages to get one. five from that over.

Trinidad doing well to keep Chennai in check.

CSK 88/5 | Overs 14 | Dhoni 13*(17) OUT! Jadeja 3

Jadeja throws his wicket. Goes for a tight single. Had he run straight could have just made it but deviates towards the other side of the crease and Ottley does well with his direct hit and he was caught well short of the crease.

Meanwhile Narine maintains a tight line to keep Dhoni silent.

CSK 87/4 | Overs 13 | Dhoni 13*(16), Jadeja 2(3)  OUT! Bravo 2

Not any exemplary bowling from Trinidad but Chennai batsmen are faltering. Bravo, new to the crease shows poor footwork and the edge ends up as a low catch for Denesh Ramdin.

CSK 83/3 | Overs 12 | Dhoni 11*(14), Bravo 2(3)

Quiet over. New man Dwayne Bravo and Dhoni happy picking the singles. Five runs coming from that over.

CSK 78/3 | Overs 11 | Dhoni 8*(11)  OUT! Raina 38

Raina was slowly coming into his true colours. Punched a boundary on the fifth ball but he tries to clip the last delivery pitched near his leg but the aerial shot his caught by short fine-leg. It’s one of those deliveries where you are tempted to clip it for a boundary than let it go for a wide. Going by Raina’s form he went for the latter. Lendl Simmons now has two wickets.

Raina is now the highest scorer in Champions League.

CSK 72/2 | Overs 10 |  Raina 33*(26), Dhoni 7*(8)

Sunil Narine into the attack and MS Dhoni presents a great example of his delicate touch by opening the face of the bat and guiding it past short thirdman for a boundary. With these two on the crease expect a good mix of quick singles and sparkling boundaries.

CSK 66/2 | Overs 9 |  Raina 32*(25), Dhoni 2*(3)   OUT! Vijay 27

Simmons pitches it way away from off stump, Vijay tries to make room and slap it through the covers but the ball takes the bottom edge and rolls towards the stumps. Simmons’s pace isn’t a big threat for the batsmen but he has managed to keep his line accurate.

MS Dhoni comes up the order.

CSK 62/1 | Overs 8 |  Vijay 27*(23), Raina 31*(23)

Fifty partnership between Raina and Vijay coming in 36 balls. Rayad Emrit’s first ball catches Raina in two minds. However, Raina slams the swings the fourth ball in the air for an easy boundary.

Lendl Simmons into the attack.

CSK 54/1 | Overs 7 |  Vijay 25*(21), Raina 25*(19)

Good over from Badree. The batsmen nudge around and deal in singles. Badree giving nice flight to the ball.

CSK 49/1 | Overs 6 |  Vijay 23*(18), Raina 24*(17)

Vijay looking in nice touch. Collects a boundary through extra-cover. Raina on the other end launches the fourth ball straight over the bowler’s head for a six. 13 froom that over.

CSK 36/1 | Overs 5 |  Vijay 18*(16), Raina 16*(12)

Raina drives the first ball past covers to collect a boundary. But he gives some trouble to the batsman in the next two. The second one keeps low as Raina nudges it for a single.

A googly from Badree strikes Vijay in front but umpire turns down the appeal. Vijay clips the last ball past fine-leg for a boundary.

Yannick Ottley replaces Rampaul.

CSK 25/1 | Overs 4 |  Vijay 13*(13), Raina 10*(9)

Rampaul gets the ball away from the left-handed Raina but the batsman has no trouble negotiating them. Guides the fourth and fifth ball wide of thirdman to collect a couple on both occasions.

Rampaul tries to bounce out Raina but umpire gives it a wide. The additional delivery fetches a single. 10 from the over.

CSK 15/1 | Overs 3 |  Vijay 12*(12), Raina 2*(4)

Tidy over by Badree but Vijay times the last ball of the over well to get past mid-off and collects a boundary.

CSK 8/1 | Overs 2 |  Vijay 6*(8), Raina 1*(2)  OUT! Hussey 1(2)

Michael Hussey is bowled. Beautiful delivery by Rampaul. Little inward movement and breaches the defence of Hussey.

Earlier in the over, Vijay steers the ball beautifully on the off-side. In the next ball he goes for a quick single; could have been close if the mid-on fielder had hit the stumps but in the end an additional run.

CSK 2/0 | Overs 1 |  Hussey 1*(1), Vijay 1*(5)

As predicted ahead of the match, the pitch continues to be on the slower side. Denesh Ramdin begins with a spinner in the form of Samuel Badree. The ball is keeping a bit low. Both the openers are watchful against the spinner.

Ravi Rampaul to bowl from the other end.

The two openers Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay are walking to the crease. Chennai are clearly in no mood to let go off their winning momentum as they field an unchanged side in a match which won’t matter to them much.

After that slam-bang match between Mumbai Indians and Perth Scorchers, the Delhi spectators at Ferozshah Kotla are in for another interesting encounter. If you missed the match, you can catch the match report here. Mumbai will now be facing Chennai in the semi-finals.

Trinidad and Tobago have won the toss and elected to field first.

MS Dhoni at the toss says they were not sure what to choose as the wicket might get slower. However, Dinesh Ramdin was pretty clear that chasing was the best way to qualify. CHennai are playing with the same side.

Good evening and welcome to the live updates of the final league match of the Champions League Twenty20 2013 between Chennai Super Kings and Trinidad and Tobago. This is Abhijit Banare and I will be taking you through the match with over-by-over updates.

While Chennai have sailed through to the semis from Group B, the second spot is still open. Trinidad and Tobago will be eyeing that second spot. A win would take them through to the last four easily but a loss would do only if it’s by a narrow margin.
