Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) open their account in Tamil Nadu Premier League 2016 (TNPL) against Karaikudi Kaalai (KK) in the fifth match of the series. In the end CSG managed to win the match by 67 runs, quite convincingly despite their bowlers getting hammered for plenty of runs in the powerplay overs. They managed to bundle out KK with 17 balls to spare. Antony Dhas bowled a brilliant spell taking 4 for 9 in just 3 overs thrashing the KK batsmen. R Alexander too took 3 for 28 to make situation worse for KK batsmen. He got the wicket of M Vijay Kumar who fell short of 4 runs to reach his half century. Vijay was responsible for a brutal onslaught in the powerplay overs. He made it look easy and got the required run-rate under control.

Vijay’s wicket can be categorised as the turning point of the match. He shared a quickfire 56-run partnership with Rajhamany Srinivasan who scored 38 and kept running out of partners. Apart from these two batsmen, not even a single batsman could manage to score in two digits which led to the batting collapse. They managed to lose 5 wickets under 13 runs towards the end and getting bundled out for a lowly total. Skipper Subramaniam Badrinath too can not cope up with the pressure and got out cheaply.

On the other hand Karaikudi Kaalai bowlers had a horrible day at the office leaking 22 runs in form of wide deliveries. Sonu Yadav stood out of the lot as he took 4 for 27 despite leaking 7 extras. Earlier Gopinath played his attacking best scoring 43 runs from 26 deliveries. CSG managed to score 67 runs in powerplay overs. Other batsmen contributed with useful cameos. Veteran Rajagopal Sathish too scored 46 runs which took KK bowlers by storm. However, CSG too suffered a batting collapse losing 4 wickets in a matter of 5 runs. Antony Dhas contributed with the bat to towards the end and hence, adjudged Man of the Match.

Bried Scores:

Karaikudi Kaalai 127 (M Vijay Kumar 46, Rajhamany Srinivasan 38; Antony Dhas 4 for 9, R Alexander 3 for 28) lost to Chepauk Super Gillies 196 for 9 in 20 overs (Rajagopal Sathish 46, Gopinath 43; R Sonu Yadav 4 for 27, R Rajakumar 2 for 29) by 67 runs with 17 balls to spare.
