India’s former batsman and two-time BJP MP, Chetan Chauhan was appointed as chairman of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). On being appointed as the chairman, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah and said that he had already held “a few informal meetings” at his new office. Chauhan also mentioned, he will take charge of the position from Monday. He credits the appointment for his cricketing career and banking experience. But twitter took it the other way round and found reason to troll him. There were various reactions pouring in after the news broke out on Saturday morning. Can’t believe the BJP chose Chetan Chauhan as NIFT Chairman when they had Bappi Lahiri in their ranks. https://t.co/FBbnHDtEih

Jokes on twitter were based on if Chauhan will now be stitching clothes for others after his cricketing career. On appointment Chauhan spoke to The Indian Express and further added, “I will spend 60 per cent of the time in DDCA, 20 per cent at NIFT and 20 per cent in my business.” According to the NIFT Act 2006, the chairperson of the Board of Governors (BoG) is expected to be “an eminent academician, scientist or technologist or professional, to be nominated by the Visitor” of the institute, which is the President. The term of the appointment is three years.
Apart from being chairman for Fashion University, Chauhan also runs a cricket academy and owns a newsprint business. The 68-year-old, however, said he will “have time for all my roles”. On April, thr DDCA Vice President was defamed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the matter did reach till the court as well.
