Derbyshire fast-bowler Tony Palladino, who had a desirable day with the ball is now looking forward to watch Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara play in his debut match for the English county side on Wednesday.
In an interview with Derby Telegraph, Palladino mentioned that that the team management won’t put any pressure on Pujara. Earlier Glamorgan were bundled out for not-so-handsome 282 with Palladino scalping three wickets, including that off Jacques Rudolf for nine runs.
“We are not going to put any pressure on him,” said Palladino. “I’m sure he will have played on plenty of wickets like this as well but he hasn’t played cricket for a couple of weeks, so we will ease him in and, hopefully, he will come in tomorrow 100 not out. We have some good batsmen to play around him as well so, hopefully, everybody can chip in but if he gets nought or if he gets a hundred, we’ll still love him! He’s a really good lad, very down to earth and he’s fitted in straight away.”
Meanwhile , Palladino was happy with the performance of the the bowling department and also accepted that it won’t be easy for his batsmen either.
“We would definitely have taken bowling them out for under 300, so we are pleased with the day,” he said. “It could have been better at one stage but Waggy [Graham Wagg] came in and played a good knock to get them up to a better score.
“It’s probably not quite as flat as we thought it would be. It is a very good wicket but it is quite slow and stodgy and it was turning, so if there was a bit of turn today there will probably be quite a bit on day four. If you bowl well on it it’s hard to get away because there’s not much pace but once the new ball goes, there’s not a great deal happening. We will have to battle past the new ball and if we bat through the second day, we have a very good chance of posting a lead,” Palladino continued.
Palladino however left some piece of advice for the Indian batsmen: “If he asks the county trundler for any tips, I will be more than happy to help but I’m sure he will be fine.”
