Chirs Rogers, the 37 year old Australian who was on short leg duties in the Brisbane Test against India was more than happy to see young Joe Burns in the team for the next Test. The main reason behind this , the Veteran opener would be happy to pass the short leg duties on to debutant Burns for Boxing Day Test.
“I’ll be pushing for the young fellow to get in there. As you saw from my technique, I’m probably not the bravest in there. But it’s one of those necessary rules; you have to get in there, but preferably I don’t want to be in there if I don’t have to, ” the southpaw said with a smile in face. According to cricket.com.au Burns would be fielding at short leg when the third Test gets underway.
After the tragic death of Phillip Hughes, the Australian cricketers were extra careful while fielding in the close in positions. Even Rogers was struck in the head while fielding at short leg in the Brisbane Test. He admitted the incident took a significant toll on him mentally. “You get hit in the head and with everything that has happened recently, it’s probably two inches from where Phil got hit, A lot of things go through your mind. At 37, fielding at short leg you’re thinking, ‘What the hell am I doing here? It was interesting times. The team asks you to get in there so you do,” the opening batsman explained.
