Chittagong Vikings withdraw from Bangladesh Premier League: reports

The 2019 Bangladesh Premier League will not see the participation of Chittagong Vikings, according to Cricbuzz, with the tournament’s acting chairman stating that the franchise owners have withdrawn without specifying why.

”Yes they have mailed saying that they are unable to continue in the tournament, but we are waiting for the arrival of their franchise owner. They were with us for the last five years so we hope that we can convince them to be part of BPL,” the BPL acting chairman Sheikh Sohel was quoted as telling Cricbuzz on Monday. “I don’t think it will be possible to replace them with a new franchise. In that case we will have to play the tournament with six teams.”

The tournament organisers are believed to be in talks with the Vikings franchise to return to the T20 league. The last date for submitting the names of players to be retained was September 30, but there was no communication from the Vikings.

The players draft for the 2019 BPL, which starts January 5, is scheduled for October 25.
