The Caribbean star Chris Gayle falls under a fresh controversy when he made inappropriate remarks to a female television reporter on air after Big Bash League (BBL) match. Gayle plays for Melbourne Renegades in the BBL competition. While speaking to Channel 10 reporter Mel McLaughlin, Gayle said, “I wanted to come and have an interview with you as well, that’s the reason why I’m here… to see your eyes for the first time. Hopefully we win this game and we can have a drink after, don’t blush baby.” To which McLaughlin appeared uncomfortable and said, “I’m not blushing,” to continue the interview. This has not given the Caribbean star the right way ahead as many cricketers, hockey players and channel reporters have slammed Gayle on Twitter. The first reaction to this comment was of former England pacer Andrew Flintoff, who says “Well played @Mel_Mclaughlin !! Big fan of @henrygayle but made himself look a bit of a chop there @tensporttv #bbl05”. Also AFL player Patrick Dangerfield and ex first-class cricketer Joe Scuderi condemned the act. Channel 10 head David Barham deeply offended by Gayle’s comment and were in conversation with Cricket Australia (CA) for this act. Barham said Herald Sun, “We will be seeking an apology. It was totally inappropriate behaviour. Mel’s a working journalist doing a job. We won’t be using him in the game anymore. Unless things change in the next few days, it’s not happening. We staunchly defend Mel and all our journalists. BBL manager Anthony Everard also came out in open and spoke against the comment made by the big Caribbean. He said, “I heard Chris’ comments and they’re disrespectful and simply inappropriate. We’ll certainly be talking to him and the Renegades about it. This league is all about its appeal to kids, families and females. There’s just no place in the BBL – or for that matter, cricket anywhere – for that sort of behaviour.” Mlebourne Renegades were to also come and speak to the media personally on Monday night. Some more twitter reactions spurge from Dangerfield’s former Adelaide Crows teammate Tex Walker defended the Renegades star, as did Australian Hockeyroo Georgie Parker and English television personality Piers Morgan.
