Chris Lynn (39) ensured Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) emerge victorious in a low-scoring affair in the ninth match of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2016 against Jamaica Tallawahs (JT). GAW were struggling to chase down a target of 101 as they lost two quick wickets early on in the innings. Lynn came into bat when Dwayne Smith (4) got dismissed in the fourth over.Martin Guptill got out on the very next ball which brought Jamaica Tallawahs back into the game. GAW needed a partnership between Lynn and Jason Mohammed. They tried not to lose their wicket and shared a vital partnership of 41 runs in 56 balls. After Jason’s wicket Anthony Bramble (27) came in to bat as GAW needed 48 from 40 deliveries. ALSO READ: Barbados Tridents ease into victory against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in CPL 2016

All of a sudden they shifted gears as the took chances against South African pacer Dale Steyn in the 15th over scoring 13 runs off his over. They continued the assault on Kersick Williams, Nikrumah Bonner and Rovman Powell in the following overs guiding GAW to a comfortable victory with 12 balls to spare. They shared a partnership of 48 runs in 28 balls which took the match away from the grip of Jamaica Tallawahs. Imad Wasim bowled a spectacular spell picking up two wickets for just six runs in his four overs.

Earlier, Jamaica Tallawahs had a terrible start to the innings as they lost Chris Gayle for a duck on the second ball of Sohail Tanvir’s over. To make situations worse they lost Kumar Sangakkara (9) in fifth over to left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul. Opener Chadwick Walton (12) too fell prey to Permaul on the next ball as Jamaica Tallawahs struggled to keep wickets from falling. Rovman (38) and Shakib Al Hasan (25) tried to get the innings back on track and shared a 51-run stand for the fourth wicket. Permaul came back  in the attack and removed Shakib in 13th over breaking the partnership.

It all went downhill from there as Jamaica Tallawahs suffered a batting collapse as they lost seven wickets in a span of 25 runs. Rovman was running out of partners and gave his wicket away to Rayad Emrit. Adam Zampa too took two wickets contributing to Jamaica Tallawahs’ collapse as they got all out for 100 in 18 overs. GAW are currently leading the Caribbean Premier League Points Table with six points followed by Jamaica Tallawahs with four points.

Brief scores:

Jamaica Tallawahs 100 in 18 overs (Rovman Powell 38, Shakib Al Hasan 25; Sohail Tanvir 2 for 11, Rayad Emrit 2 for 17) lost to Guyana Amazon Warriors 101 for 3 in 18 overs (Chris Lynn 39, Anthony Bramble 27; Imad Wasim 2 for 6, Shakib Al Hasan 1 for 21) by 7 wickets.
