Chris Lynn, the No. 3 for Australia A, has scored a responsible half-century, a 61-ball 63, to build a solid base for his team in their chase of 259. He has hit three sixes, off seamer Rishi Dhawan, legspinner Karn Sharma, and part-time bowler Unmukt Chand, and five fours so far in his quick knock. He came in to bat at the fall of Usman Khawaja in the ninth over, started slowly as opener Travis Head held the initiative, and then gained momentum. Earlier, Head stuck a quick 45 to lead his side to a strong start of their chase. He started his belligerence in the second over, with three cracking boundaries through the off side off seamer Sandeep Sharma, and finished when he stepped down the track and missed the ball which went through him and hit the stumps, in the 15th over. The eight boundaries he scored were solid pulls, smashes down the ground, deftly executed drives and guides, and cuts. But he also played 22 dot balls, signalling his intent to stay to patiently steer his side towards the total.
Lynn took the cue from him and batted serenely to his own half-century. A stable partnership was on the build with Peter Handscomb, before both got out within two overs of each other.
India A’s innings was built on two half-centuries, from Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey respectively, to have India A scoring 258 for 9 in their 50 overs. Australia A left-arm spinner Ashton Agar took five wickets to impede India A’s progress in the middle of the innings, after Agarwal’s belligerence, but Pandey stepped in towards the latter half of the innings to hold the fort.
