Former Australian cricketer Chris Rogers, who retired from Test cricket after the end of the Ashes 2015 series in England after his team’s loss, will once again be seen in the English County circuit as he has joined the Somerset Cricket Club for the season in 2016. The left-handed opening batsman, who enjoyed significant success in his short international career which ended sometime ago, will be playing for the fifth County team in his career. It must be remembered that Rogers has scored more than 10,000 runs in both England and Australia, and thus enjoyed a successful career in both the countries where the conditions are entirely different.

The 38-year-old Rogers has played for County teams such as Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northants and Middlesex among the minor Counties such as Shropshire and Wiltshire. Rogers has so far played in 297 First-Class matches, and has scored 24,460 runs at an impressive average of 49.81. Rogers has 73 centuries with the top score of 319 to his credit. Alongside Rogers, the County club also signed teenage wicketkeeper from Kent, Ryan Davies.

The director of cricket at Somerset, Matt Maynard was quoted as saying by the BBC,  “These are great signings. Chris Rogers is an outstanding batsman with an excellent attitude towards the game. Our young players will learn a lot from him. Ryan Davies is a great young talent. I am excited about how we can help him develop in to the cricketer that we all think he can become.”
