Chris Russell’s contract will not be renewed as Worcestershire County Cricket Club release him from the club for County Championship. Russell’s six-wicket haul against South Africa while playing for Worcestershire Second XI in 2012 can be considered as his biggest achievement till date, his figures were 6 for 72 in that game and straightaway became a promising fast bowler. Russell made his debut in Edgbaston against Warwickshire and proved his mettle straightaway by taking 4 for 43. The 27-year-old was also their star performer and leading wicket-taker in NatWest T20 Blast 2014 as he scalped 16 wickets in eight games making a name for himself. Russell has played 18 First-Class games and taken 38 wickets.

According to Worcester News, Director of cricket Steve Rhodes said, “I really do wish Chris all the best – like all of our players who are released. He has been with us a lot longer than people think and it is always a tough time for people to be leaving the club. I think he will look elsewhere and try and find another county and, wherever that might be, I wish him well with his career away from Worcestershire.”

Russell has played 10 List A matches and taken 7 wickets. He has also taken 17 wickets in T20 format including a four-wicket haul. Though, his economy rate of 9.69 in T20s does not support his claim for a berth in the side despite taking wickets. Russell will be leaving Worcestershire County Cricket Club after four years of association. It will be interesting to see which club will be willing to select him in the side and bring the best in him.
