The coach of Australian domestic side Victoria has said that the Test form of Australian bowler Clint McKay has been ”dented” by technical flaws that may have worked into his game as a result of playing so much one-day cricket, which had made him famous in the first place.
McKay has played just five Sheffield Shield games for Victoria this summer, and was also dropped by his Melbourne Stars during the Big Bash League.
According to News.com.au, Greg Shipperd said that the tall pacer is working hard in the hope of playing in the final domestic game of the season next week and is resolving a few run-up and technique issues that may have worked into his game as a result of playing so much One-Day International (ODI) cricket.
Shipperd also said that to an extent, McKay has lost some of his capacity to swing the ball around and hit the seam day in and day out and is also lacking ”penetration”, although he hoped that Australian selectors consider his performance in the ODI form- at which he is a champion.
McKay took an imposing 34 ODI wickets in 2013 after winning the 2012-13 ODI Player of the Year award, and even at the depths of his summer slump, he rediscovered his rhythm with six wickets in three matches against England, the report added.
