Faisalabad Wolves are set to take on Kandurata Maroons in a dead-rubber Champions League T20 2013 match at Mohali on Friday.
It will be a battle to avoid the wooden spoon for bottom-placed Faisalabad and Kandurata in the inconsequential qualifier in Mohali. Hyderabad and Otago Volts earned their berth in the main draw of the Champion League after knocking out Faisalabad and Kandurata respectively with contrasting victories.
Their victories meant back-to-back qualifiers between Faisalabad and Kandurata and Hyderabad and Otago Volts are merely for academic interest.
The match between the Wolves and Maroons — both placed at the bottom in the points table — will be a fight to restore some pride. It will be an interesting battle of supremacy as both Wolves and Maroons will play out of their skin to avoid the wooden spoon.
Misbah-ul-Haq has done the bulk of the scoring for the Wolves but there has not been much support from other batsmen. What has hurt them the most is the lacklustre performance of their bowlers, who failed to pose a threat to the rivals.
Teams:
Kandurata Maroons: Milinda Siriwardana, Upul Tharanga, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Lahiru Thirimanne (c), Chamara Silva, Thilina Kandamby, Lahiru Jayaratne, Dilhara Lokuhettige, Nuwan Kulasekara, Suraj Randiv, Ajantha Mendis
Faisalabad Wolves: Ali Waqas, Ammar Mahmood, Asif Ali, Misbah-ul-Haq (c), Khurram Shehzad, Imran Khalid, Mohammad Salman (wk), Ehsan Adil, Saeed Ajmal, Asad Ali, Samiullah Khan.
