Ever since the Supreme Court hearing last month, Committee of Administrators (CoA) have taken bold steps against Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The CoA now have instructed all BCCI-affiliated state cricket associations to give away names of all the members present in the open and also give a list of the same to its chairman Vinod Rai by August 8. The CoA is of the view that such transparency is a must in the board that shall also curb malpractice of proxy-voting.

According a BCCI source, who spoke to cricbuzz, said that such step was taken keeping in mind that associations, which have 50 or less members, do not form a gang and have a dummy elections within them. The CoA is keen on knowing  how these associations are run apart from making it a coherent system. Such practice could very well bring down a lot of lobbying in associations such as Saurashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra.

Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) has forever being plagued by such malpractices. For that matter, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) is run by people who already own clubs and hardly pay any deed to the goodwill of the game.

Speaking to Times of India, a BCCI official said, “The basic purpose of sending out the mail is to ensure that nepotism is checked. There are several members who are blatantly promoting their own relatives and friends to the detriment of the association. This in turn has fuelled a lot of financial corruption as crores of rupees have been siphoned off in various scams. Hence, it is the duty of the CoA to keep track of how the units of the BCCI are functioning. Some of the state bodies are very close to the current set of officials in the BCCI.”
