AN Sharma, the former coach of explosive batsman Virender Sehwag is eagerly waiting for his lad’s phone call after he created world record of highest individual score in one-day cricket on Thursday at Indore.

“I am speechless. I’m in seventh heaven. I am eagerly waiting Viru’s phone call,” Sharma told MiD DAY.

Sharma said Sehwag had a rough patch after the World Cup when he suffered shoulder injury, and had a tough time in England.

“That was a very hard phase for Viru. He used to get very frustrated at times, but I advised him not to worry and only concentrate on his game. I knew that he will score a big ton soon and I am glad he did that in Indore,” said Sharma.

Sehwag’s coach said he advised the Indian opener to not to get very aggressive.

“He called me after the Test series and I advised him not to attempt too many boundaries in an over. ‘Just hang in there and the runs will flow automatically,’ I said.

In his response, Sehwag said, “Sir, when I hit three boundaries in an over I find it easy to score the fourth one too. In fact, I get stamina to hit the ball outside the ground.”

Sharma said Sehwag is the right man to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record. “Viru idolises Tendulkar and there isn’t a better man to break the record than Viru,” said the coach.
