An obviously relieved Justin Kemp, captain of Nashua Cape Cobras, congratulated his bowlers for his team’s seven-wicket win against New South Wales Blues in the Champions League T20 match here on Saturday.
Batting first on winning the toss, the New South Wales made 135 for eight and Cobras replied with 136 for three in 17.2 overs for an easy victory.
‘We didn’t field well at the start and dropped a couple of catches. But we came back well thereafter and bowled well in the middle overs. We took the pace off the ball.
”However, we have to improve for our next game for we cannot afford to drop catches off quality batsmen. I thought we got a bit ahead of ourselves at the start,” said Kemp.
Blues skipper Simon Katich was obviously disappointed and said they were well short of the target they had in mind, but hoped to regroup and come back strongly in the tournament.
“I am obviously disappointed to lose the game. We should have got at least 150. We didn’t capitalize on the two dropped catches early in the innings.”
“I thought we did bowl well overall, but like I said, we were short by 15 to 20 runs. We will now have to re-group and come back strongly,” said Katich.
Man of the Match Herschelle Gibbs said the pitch was two-paced and with the Blues bowlers bowling back of the length deliveries, he decided to hit through the line.
“We dropped a couple of catches in the first few overs, but got back into the game. We squeezed them a bit and got wickets at the right time.
“The wicket was two-paced and with them bowling back of the length, I decided to hit through the line. It is certainly a good way to start the competition,” he said. (IANS)
