Congress MLA Arif Aqueel has been elected as the president of the faction-ridden Bhopal Division Cricket Association (BDCA), while Aruneshwar Singh Deo has been nominated as the chairman of the cricket body.
The election was held on Wednesday during the cricket body’s Annual General Body Meeting (AGM), that was convened by Aqueel in his capacity as the chairman of the BDCA.
Out of the total 151 BDCA members, 90 took part in the meeting and unanimously elected Aqueel as the new president of the BDCA.
However, BJP MLA and president of BDCA’s another faction, Dhruv Narayan Singh, termed the election as “illegal” and alleged that those who participated in the meeting were not the genuine members of the association.
Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association’s (MPCA) three observers — Milind Kanmadikar, Sunil Pandit and Dilip Chudgar — were present during the meeting to oversee the election process.

The faction led by Narayan will hold its elections on February 24 during its AGM, but MPCA has not yet taken a call on sending its observers for that meeting.
