Yorkshire completed a 100-run victory over Sussex to assert their dominance on top of the Division One table with 286 points at the end of the County Championship 2015. Chasing 309 in order to avoid relegation to the second division, Sussex were done in by the three-wicket hauls of Tim Bresnan, Jack Brooks and Adil Rashid to get bowled out for 208 at the end of their innings, with Ashar Zaidi, Bill Brown and Michael Yardy offering some resistance before getting dismissed in the 40s. Sussex ended up in the second-last position in Division One, and will join Worcestershire in the second division next year.
Yorkshire had earlier confirmed themselves as the champions of the 2015 edition when they bowled Middlesex out for a paltry score of 106, with Ryan Sidebottom and Bresnan leading the carnage with figures of 5 for 18 and 4 for 30. Sidebottom took his 700th First-Class wicket during the haul, although the effort would later go in vain. Middlesex produced a brilliant turnaround in the second innings, declaring on 573 for 8 before skittling Yorkshire out for 134 to record a memorable 246-run win. Yorkshire coach and former Australia cricketer Jason Gillespie was especially delighted at his team’s dominant performance throughout the summer, winning 11 and losing just one in their 16 games to finish with a total of 286 points, 68 more their nearest competitors Middlesex.
