COVID-19: Poonam Yadav Donates Rs 2 Lakh to Aid in The Fight Against Coronavirus Pandemic

She has decided to give Rs 1 Lakh each to the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) and Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Distress Relief Fund.

India’s most successful bowler in the T20 Women’s World Cup Poonam Yadav has donated Rs 2 Lakh for the fight against coronavirus.

She has decided to give Rs 1 Lakh each to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) and Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Distress Relief Fund.

Yadav, who took 10 wickets in five matches, urged citizens, to stay in their house and neither allow anyone in.

“In this tough time for the country, this is the only way we can help the people because we can’t go out of our house neither we could allow someone to come in,” Poonam said in an interview with Women’s CricZone.

Yadav also revealed that she wanted to make donations for a long time and had also tried it on Google Pay, but because of the transaction limit, she was unable to do so.

“I was thinking of donating for a long time. Actually I was about to pay yesterday (March 29) but the amount limit in Google Pay (an online transaction platform) is Rs 50,000. So I tried through some other platform today and it finally it happened,” she added.

Earlier, the teen star from Bengal, Richa Ghosh also contributed Rs 1 lakh.

Recently, the Board of Cricket for Cricket in India (BCCI) also contributed Rs 51 crore to the PM-CARES Fund.

A 21-day lockdown has been clamped in India to stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus. In India, the number of positive cases has already crossed the 1000-mark and is constantly on the rise.
