Heavy rains abandoned play on Tuesday between Barbados Tridents (BT) and Jamaica Tallawahs (JT) leading to no result. This means, both teams will share points. Earlier, BT skipper Kieron Pollard won the toss and elected to field first putting JT to bat first. As soon as the game began, rains showed a glimpse of their side and reduced the play to 12-overs-a-side. This worked well for JT batsmen as Chadwick Walton and ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle were all guns blazing. Gayle ensured every over went past 10-runs. As soon as Walton was picked by Shoaib Malik, Kumar Sangakkara and Gayle took charge. Sangakkara and Gayle put up 59-run stand for second wicket in 3.5 overs. Until, the Sri Lanka southpaw was eventually beaten by Ravi Rampaul’s pace and his stumps uprooted. Rovman Powell — the new batsman — was off the mark right up, until rains decided to play spoilsport and stop the play completely by the 10th over. Gayle, who was playing at 47, slammed five monstrous sixes, apart from two boundaries. Gayle has been in the form of his life this season as he scored century for his side, that lead to 7-wicket win against Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) earlier.
At the end of 10 overs, JT posted 116 for 2 when the rains halted play. JT are placed second in the points table with 5 points while Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) are leading at the top with 8 points after they beat JT by 4-wicket in their last outing. BT are placed at No.4 with three points after Tuesday’s match.
Brief Scores:
Jamaica Tallawahs 116 for 2 in 10 overs (Chris Gayle 47*, Kumar Sangakkara 25; Ravi Rampaul 1 for 25) vs Barbados Tridents. No Result.
