In the 23rd match of CPL 2016 between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Zouks at Gros Islet, Dwayne Smith showcased a piece of his brute strength, breaking the glass of refrigerator with one of his shot. The incident took place in the 10th over of Guyana’s innings. The third ball of the over bowled by Grant Elliott was powered back towards long off for a six by Smith. The shot had so much power in that it broke the glass of the refrigerator carrying drinks. While Smith grabbed many headlines with the shot, he was on the end of the losing side. His knock 56 helped Guyana post 159 on the board batting first. At one point, it seemed they’d be restricted to less than 140, but a 45-ball 86 from Chris Lynn changed the course of the game. Smith and Lynn added 100 for the 2nd wicket which propelled Guyana to a respectable score. For St Lucia, Jerome Taylor and Shane Watson took two wickets apiece, going for less than 7 runs per over.
In reply, the chase was very comfortable for St Lucia thanks to a unbelievable 52-ball 94 from opener Johnson Charles. He got a lending hand in Watson, who followed his brilliant bowling performance with a 39-ball 57 with the bat. Andre Fletcher was dismissed early, but Watson and Charles ensured that there were no more hiccups along the way as their unbeaten 151-run stand for the second wicket was good enough to seal the match.
Sohail Tanvir was the sole wicket-taker for the Warriors, but finished with figures of 1 for 47 in his four overs. Charles was adjudged the man of the match for his brilliant effort.
