Nic Maddinson has been called up by Guyana Amazon Warriors to replace the outgoing New Zealand opener Martin Guptill for the remainder of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2016 season. The Warriors are currently top of the CPL 2016 table, with five wins from 6 matches. Guptill’s absence will be felt by the team, considering he scored 164 runs prior to his departure. The New Zealander was called up by his national squad for tour to Zimbabwe. His replacement, Maddinson, has played two T20 International’s (T20I) for Australia. He also was the skipper of Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash 2015/16 season. ALSO READ: Video: Watch AB de Villiers getting a nasty blow on the head
Maddinson, 24, made his international debut against India in 2013, scoring 34 off 16 balls, and has represented Australia on two occasions in T20 internationals. The left-handed opening batsman captained the Sydney Sixers in the 2015/16 Big Bash and in 50 Twenty20 career innings he averages 23.93.
Guyana are currently in a commanding position in the CPL 2016. Guptill-led Guyana won their first four fixtures on the trot, before tasting defeat in the hands of Trinbago Knight Riders. But they bounced superbly in the next fixture, beating St. Lucia Zouks comfortably by 8 wickets.
Barbados Tridents are second in the table, with 5 points from 4 matches. CPL 2016 is held between six teams, and started on June 29. The final will take place at St.Kitts on August 7. The top four teams from the table will reach the playoff stage. First and second ranked team will play each other in Playoff 1, whereas third and fourth ranked team will play each other in Playoff 2.
