St Lucia Stars suffered their sixth straight loss in CPL 2017, as Jamaica Tallawahs thrashed them by 5 wickets. The Stars set up a huge total of 174 for Tallawahs with the help of brisk fifties from Marlon Samuels and Andre Fletcher. However, an unbeaten half-century from Andre McCarthy handed Tallawahs their third win on the trot. Opting to bat first, Stars were in trouble when Shane Watson and Johnson Charles were sent back to the pavilion in space of three deliveries.

But nothing could stop the Caribbean men who stitched a century stand. Where Fletcher remained unbeaten on 84, Samuels was dismissed for 54. It was enough to inflict damage on Tallawahs. Fletcher took the centre stage later with series of boundaries, bringing up his 10th CPL fifty. Samuels followed suit as well and raised his fifty by the 16th over. However, the third wicket stand that took Stars on course was broken when Samuels was caught by Rovman Powell at deep midwicket. It was followed by Stars collapse, as they lost 4 wickets by the 19th over. However, there was nothing to stop Fletcher as Powell was smashed for 16 runs that included two sixes. Tallawahs started their response well with Glenn Phillips (32) at the end of the first Powerplay.

However, Shane Shillingford was called into attack and removed Phillips right after the Powerplay. In a span of two overs, Lendl Simmons went back for 17. McCarthy did find some support from Sangakkara, but Powell and his exit added more trouble to Tallawahs’ camp.

In the final overs, Tallawahs needed 56 to win courtesy some tight bowling from Mitchell McClenaghan and Samuels, but the game tilted in Tallawahs’ favour as Shillingford leaked 12 runs off the 16th over. Despite providing a crucial breakthrough in the 19th over, McClenaghan proved to be expensive conceding 20 runs off it. However, it was Taylor’s over that helped Tallawahs reach the finish line. With this win, Jamaica Tallawahs jump to the first half of the points table.
