Colin Munro’s blitz and Shadab Khan’s 4-for eased Trinbago Knight Riders to 7-wicket win against Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2017. With this fourth successive win, the Knight Riders have taken a two-point lead over Barbados Tridents, leading the points table. Opting to bowl, the Knight Riders were not at their best. Warriors’ openers Martin Guptill and Chadwick Walton blazed their way to 40 runs off just 3 overs. Robert Frylinck proved to be expensive with his spell, conceding 22 of it. Dwayne Bravo decided to bring his spinner Shadab Khan after a horrific start. The move paid dividends as the Pakistan spinner got rid of Guptill for 24.
Sunil Narine also joined the action, removing Babar Azam. However, Walton kept the scoreboard ticking with his big shots. But Warriors lost the momentum when Kevon Cooper was introduced into attack, removing Walton for 36. It was then over to Shadab who did not let partnerships to build up, as he struck at regular intervals. Warriors added a modest total of 156 with spinners sharing combined figures of 8-0-44-6. Knight Riders, on the other hand, lost Brendon McCullum early on. Nevertheless, Munro and Narine were on a rampage stitching 72-run stand by the Powerplay. Munro was on fire especially adding 46 runs to the partnership. Warriors, finally, found a breakthrough scalping Narine for 23. Darren Bravo also tried to play a handy innings but was sent back to the pavilion by Roshan Primus. Denesh Ramdin, along with Munro, then got the chase back on track.
Ramdin got a couple of boundaries, while Munro was busy with the big shots. Ramdin then sealed the Knight Riders innings in the penultimate over with two consecutive sixes.
Brief scores:
Guyana Amazon Warriors 156 for 7 in 20 overs (Chadwick Walton 36, Martin Guptill 24; Shadab Khan 4 for 28) lost to Trinbago Knight Riders 162 for 3 in 19 overs (Colin Munro 70*, Denesh Ramdin 42*; Sohail Tanvir 1 for 34) by 7 wickets with 6 balls to spare
