Evin Lewis’ whirlwind unbeaten innings of 37-ball 97 powered St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to 10-wicket win over Barbados Tridents in Match 30 of CPL 2017. The stadium witnessed boundaries galore as the Patriots chased target of 129 within 7 overs. Lewis not only ended with up with fastest fifty of this CPL edition but also scored the fastest fifty in the history of the tournament. Lewis could have gone to register the second fastest century in the history of T20 cricket as well. However, with a run needed to win, Kieron Pollard continued his drama from the previous game and overstepped intentionally, denying Lewis to score a century. Lewis’ knock left every Tridents fielder shell shocked as the southpaw touched upon every nook and cranny of the ground.
Lewis even took Wahab Riaz for a ride as he conceded 15 runs in an over. Lewis launched his attack from the third over. His innings comprised of 11 sixes. Skipper Chris Gayle, played the second fiddle as his partner took the centre stage. Gayle remained unbeaten on 22. Earlier, only Tion Webster crunched a fine 32 as Tridents finished their innings at 128. He found a handful of support from Nicholas Pooran. Meanwhile, T20 World Cup match-winner Carlos Brathwaite was the star amongst the bowlers ending with a 4-for. With this, Patriots claimed the No. 2 spot in the points table and will face Trinbago Knight Riders in Qualifier 1.
Brief scores:
Brabados Tridents 128 for 9 in 20 overs (Tion Webster 32, Nicholas Pooran 21; Carlos Brathwaite 4 for 15) lost to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 129 for no loss in 7 overs (Evin Lewis 97*, Chris Gayle 22*) by 10 wickets
