Chadwick Walton and Luke Ronchi significantly contributed with the bat to help Guyana Amazon Warriors post a 9-wicket victory against Jamaica Tallawahs in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2017. The Tallawahs had earlier posted a target of 150, which the Warriors easily chased down with 9.3 overs remaining. However, despite the defeat, the Warriors remain at No. 2 position in the points table, with six victories in 10 matches while the Warriors are at No. 4. Though the Tallawahs openers could not pull off any extraordinary show, the partnership between captain Kumar Sangakkara (38) and Andre McCarthy (44) boosted the team with remarkable batsmanship. They took the team’s score past 100, before Roshon Primus broke the partnership, getting rid of McCarthy. The Tallawahs failed to build another partnership, posting 149 for 7 at the end of their 20 overs. Sohail Tanvir and Rayad Emrit were the pick of the bowlers, with a couple of wickets each.
The Tallawahs bowlers could hardly contribute with the ball, outwitted by the destructive batting of Walton (84 off 40) and Ronchi (55 off 29). Both had the mindset to end things soon for their opponents, hitting the bowlers all over the park. Though the Tallwahs got their first breakthrough in the very first over as Oshane Thomas dismissed Sohail Tanvir for a golden duck, the Warriors already had 15 runs on the board. No other Tallawahs bowler could bag another wicket as Walton and Ronchi’s partnership took the team to victory in 10.3 overs.
Brief scores:
Jamaica Tallawahs 149 for 7 in 20 overs (Kumar Sangakkara 38, Andre McCarthy 44; Sohail Tanvir 2 for 27, Rayad Emrit 2 for 29) lost to Guyana Amazon Warriors 150 for 1 in 10.3 overs (Chadwick Walton 84*, Luke Ronchi 55; Oshane Thomas 1 for 32) by 9 wickets.
