In yet another nail-biting finish, the Kumar Sangakkara-led Jamaica Tallawahs edged past Guyana Amazon Warriors by a mere 2 runs in match 15 of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2017. Asked to chase down 129 to win, the Tallawahs held their nerves in the dying moments of the game. The Warriors needed 8 runs off 6 balls with 8 wickets in hand. However, Kesrick Williams showed exceptional calmness in the final over, conceding a mere 5. At one stage The Warriors needed 4 from 3 balls, but Williams had Babar Azam caught off the next ball, conceded a run off the penultimate ball, and with 3 to defend, had Roshon Primus caught. He finished with 3 for 30.

Warriors were always in the hunt after a blistering start by Chadwick Walton (37) and Martin Guptill (33) that added 67 runs in as many balls. For the Tallawahs, Glenn Phillips rose to the occasion with bat in the first half of the day. Phillips smacked a 47-ball 51 with 4 fours and 2 sixes to help his side reach a par score of 128 for 7. It was an off day for the likes of Sangakkara, Jonathan Foo and Rovman Powell, who have been good in the tournament so far. For the Warriors, Rayad Emrit, Rashid Khan and Steven Jacobs picked up 2 wickets apiece, while Sohail Tanvir grabbed one. With this win the Tallawahs go to No. 2 in the points table while the Warriors’ languish at No. 5.
