T20 cricket lasts for less than 4 hours. Nonetheless, it provides wholesome entertainment with almost something happening in every alternate delivery. Various franchise leagues have thrived on the formula of assembling big names under one roof to form successful tournaments across the globe. The Caribbean version of IPL; i.e. CPL 2017, is underway. The 5th game of the ongoing fifth edition saw Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Tridents lock horns at Florida. With big names like Kumar Sangakkara, Kane Williamson, Lendl Simmons, Imad Wasim, Kieron Pollard, Shoaib Malik, Dwayne Smith and Shakib Al Hasan involved, the match went down to the wire. Nonetheless, it also witnessed Williamson’s sheer brilliance to send off Sangakkara.
West Indies out-of-favour bowler, Ravi Rampaul, bowled the second over of the game. It was a short ball asking to be hit. Sangakkara adjusted to the length and latched onto the ball. It was a powerful shot, a traditional Sangakkara-cut, but Williamson overshadowed him. Standing at point, Williamson dived full length and pulled off a stunning catch. The rest of Tallawahs’ innings never got going, but a timely 44 not out from Shakib’s blade ensured they finished on 154 for 5 in 20 overs. In reply, Tridents lost their way at 52 for 5. In the end, they were restricted to 142 all-out in their full quota of overs.
