Kieron Pollard’s fifty went in vain as a rain-marred match handed St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 17-run win by DLS method in Match 16 of CPL 2017. Chasing target of 169, the Patriots were in good stead at 84 for 1 in 9.3 overs. However, incessant rains halted their success. The Patriots were 17 runs ahead of the par score after the game found no respite from rains for an hour and a half. Barbados Tridents were out of sorts with the ball when Akeal Hosain conceded 5 wides of his over. Evin Lewis provided a blistering start with a six, but later the task was handled by Chris Gayle and Mohammad Hafeez.

After a poor start from Akeal, Ravi Rampaul was called into attack. Although he avoided the extras, there were boundaries galore in his spell from Gayle. By the end of the Powerplay, the Patriots were in comfortable position at 44. With the rains looming, Gayle and Hafeez piled on the runs being ahead of the asking run-rate. Gayle did take the aerial route occasionally while Hafeez played a composed knock. Both stitched 70-run stand by 8.3 overs which kept Patriots ahead of the DLS score of 67 when the rains paved their way. Earlier, Dwayne Smith was off to fiery start despite losing his top-order partners Kane Williamson and Christopher Barnwell for single digits. Smith scored quickfire 16-ball 33 before falling in the 6th over. The Tridents were comfortably placed on 51 by the first Powerplay. Shoaib Malik looked to carry the momentum forward with his score of 29, but fell to Hasan Ali’s trap.

With entry of Pollard began the big hitting shots. The Tridents were 89 for 5 when Pollard entered and cruised the Tridents to 168 in no time. Carlos Brathwaite was punished as he leaked 17 runs. Hasan who bowled tight length was not spared either and was smashed 14 runs of his penultimate over.

Pollard raised his fifty off the final over of Tabraiz Shamsi with a boundary over square leg fence and ended the spell with a six remaining unbeaten on 40-ball 63. Nicholas Pooran was handy too with his 14-ball 20.
