CPL 2018: Imran Tahir, Sohail Tanvir star in Guyana Amazon Warriors win

Four wickets to Imran Tahir and some hitting down the order from Sohail Tanvir has pushed Guyana Amazon Warriors to a four-wicket win over St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, their fourth in six matches to draw level with alongside Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs on eight points on the 2018 Caribbean Premier League leaderboard.

Chasing 169 for victory at Warner Park, Guyana were helped over the line in the last over thanks to Tanvir, who hit 37 not out off 20 balls. Luke Ronchi (28) and Jason Mohammed (36) did most of the scoring until Tanvir, who hit three sixes and two fours, sealed a thrilling with one ball left in the match. Two sixes in the lash over off Sheldon Cottrell saw Warriors over the line.

Conceding 15 wides did not help Patriots’ case.

Earlier, Tahir’s 4/22 pegged Patriots back to 168/7 in 20 overs. Skipper Chris Gayle hit three sixes and four fours in his 27-ball 40, but Tahir’s introduction saw the score go from 71/0 to 102/5. Tahir took a wicket in each of his four overs to derail the innings, which needed some power to make a fist of things. It came from New Zealand import Anton Devcich, who hit 35 off 24 balls, and Australian Ben Cutting who smashed an unbeaten 19 off nine.

In the end, however, bowling 19 extras proved costly for Patriots.
