Jos Buttler and Craig Kieswetter’s quickfire knocks propelled England to a huge total of 118 for five from 11 overs against South Africa in their rain-truncated third and final Twenty20 International at Birmingham on Wednesday.

Kieswetter scored a brisk half-century and Buttler remained unbeaten on 32, which came off just 10 balls.

The England wicketkeeper-batsman showed aggressive intent right from the start and clobbered three sixes and as many boundaries to score 50 off 32 balls.

Kieswetter’s knock was the only bright spot for the hosts, till the ninth over, as the top order failed to score runs against South African bowling attack.

Buttler swatted three boundaries and two six, which took England post the 100-run mark.

Michael Lumb, who replaced Alex Hales in the England team, failed to make a mark with the bat and fell to South Africa seamer Wayne Parnell.

Johan Botha provided South Africa the second breakthrough as he dismissed Luke Wright, who failed to impress once again being dismissed for six, which came from 10 balls.

Botha also bagged the key wicket of Eoin Morgan, who failed to make a mark and fell for five.

South African bowlers tied England with disciplined bowling and kept taking wickets at regular intervals.

But, their effort went in vain as Buttler targeted Parnell and three sixes and two boundaries. The hosts scored 32 runs off that over.

Earlier, South Africa captain AB de Villiers decided to bowl after winning the toss.

South Africa made two changes in their side bringing in Faf du Plessis and Wayne Parnell in place of JP Duminy and Dale Steyn respectively.

England made three changes, as Danny Briggs, Tim Bresnan and Lumb replacing Steven Finn, Samit Patel and Alex Hales respectively.

Brief Scores: England 118 for 5 from 11 overs (Craig Kieswetter 50, Jos Buttler 32*; Johan Botha 2 for 19, Morne Morkel 2 for 28) vs South Africa
