It was a historic day for Bangladesh as they England by a huge margin of 108 runs in the second Test at Mirpur. Thanks to newcomer Mehedi Hasan who made England batsman dance to his spin bowling and he ended up taking 12 wickets in this Test, which is also his second match of the career. The foundation of victory was first laid by Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal by scoring a crucial 104 runs in the first innings of the match. Although, Bangladesh collapsed after Tamim’s ton and England took lead as well but it was Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan’s spell who brought his side back into the game.
While chasing a stiff total of 273 runs, England looked confident the way they started by not losing any wicket for first 100 runs. Opener Ben Duckett and Alastair Cook both scored fifties but everything turned with the England captain’s wicket as no other batsman could stay in the crease for long. Ben Stokes showed some promise but he too could not let his feet stuck at the crease for more than 36 deliveries. With this emphatic victory, Bangladesh has surely ensured their rise in Tests as well after doing that in limited overs format.
Their victory was very much appreciated and rated pretty highly by everyone in the cricket fraternity. Meanwhile, we present some of those appreciation and reaction from cricket fraternity.
What a comeback from Bangladesh in this series. Mehedi Hasan. Good series to watch. Bangladesh cricket is heading the right way.
