With World Cup 2019 around the corner, we have a look at the wicketkeepers who ruled the roost in the each edition of the tournament. While Adam Gilchrist scalped 21 dismissals in World Cup 2003, here are the wicketekeppers who topped the list in all the 11 editions of the World Cups.
Rod Marsh (Australia) 1975: 10 dismissals
While Australia ended the tournament as a runners-up after going down against West Indies in the final, Rod Marsh topped the list of most dismissals for a wicketkeeper. The Australian, with nine catches and a stumping, was involved in 10 dismissals.
Deryck Murray (West Indies) and Wasim Bari (Pakistan) 1979: 7 dismissals
Murray, who had scalped nine dismissals in the inaugural edition of the World Cup, and Pakistan’s Wasim Bari shared the top spot in the list of most dismissals for a wicketkeeper with seven dismissals.
Jeff Dujon (West Indies) 1983: 16 dismissals
West Indies could not seal a hat-trick of World Cup triumphs, but Jeff Dujon managed to top the list of the wicketkeepers with 16 dismissals, the most for a wicketkeeper in the tournament. The West Indian picked 15 catches and was involved in one stumping.
Kiran More (India) 1987: 11 dismissals
Defending champion India’s run in the World Cup ended in the semi-final but Kiran More, who was playing his first World Cup, topped the list of the wicketkeepers with 11 dismissals in six matches. The Indian wicketkeeper picked six catches and was involved in five stumpings.
David Richardson (South Africa) 1992: 15 dismissals
With 14 catches and a stumping, David Richardson topped the list of the wicketkeepers with the most number of dismissals in the World Cup which was hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Ian Healy (Australia) 1996: 12 dismissals
While Sri Lanka beat Australia to win their maiden World Cup title, Ian Healy, with 12 dismissals against his name from seven matches, ended the tournament with the most number of dismissals for a wicketkeeper.
Moin Khan (Pakistan) 1999: 16 dismissals
Pakistan were the runners-up in the tournament but Moin Khan, with 16 dismissals, topped the list of the wicketkeepers with the most dismissals. Moin held on to twelve catches and was involved in four stumpings.
Adam Gilchrist (Australia) 2003: 21 dismissals
As Australia clinched their third World Cup title, Adam Gilchrist ended the tournament with 21 dismissals against his name. The Australian wicketkeeper picked 21 catches to top the list of the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper.
Adam Gilchrist (Australia) 2007: 17 dismissals
As Australia completed a hat-trick of World Cup triumphs, Gilchrist, for the second edition in a row, topped the list of wicketkeepers with the most number of dismissals. Gilchrist held on to 12 catches and stumped five batsmen.
Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) 2011: 14 dismissals
While Sri Lanka were the runners-up in the tournament as India clinched their second World Cup title, skipper and the wicketkeeper-batsman had 14 dismissals against his name.
Brad Haddin (Australia) 2015: 16 dismissals
As Australia clinched their fifth World Cup title, Brad Haddin topped the list of the wicketkeepers with 16 dismissals against his name.
