South Africa pacer Dale Steyn reached a new milestone when he took his 400th Test wicket during the first day of the second and final Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday. Steyn became the 13th bowler in the history of cricket to achieve the milestone, completing the same by dismissing Tamim Iqbal on a score of 6. Pitched wide outside the off-stump, Tamim attempted to go for the drive, but ended up edging it to Hashim Amla. Bangladesh lost their first wicket with 12 runs on board as a result of the dismissal, after skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first. Steyn had taken three wickets in his first Test in Chittagong at the expense of 78 runs, after having missed out on the One-Day International (ODI) series. Having made his Test debut against England in a home series in 2004, Steyn has been one of the most destructive bowlers in the world ever since. Steyn soon became the pace spearhead, with old stalwarts such as Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini nearing the end of their careers. His rise coincided with South Africa’s rise in world cricket under the captaincy of Graeme Smith. Along with the likes of Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander, Kyle Abbott, Wayne Parnell, etc, South Africa gained a world-class bowling attack that played an instrumental part in its rise to top of the Test rankings.
